about

This was the first record I made using my own name. I'd recently become a dad and I didn't want to spend loads of time away form home, rehearsing or recording, so most of it was recorded in my house. Neil Rogers from Half Ton in Cambridge got himself a sweet portable rig and set up in my living room. We had John Smith over for a couple of days to play guitar all over the album, which was a blast. The wonderful Gill Sandell sang and played accordion. Emily Barker also sang - the first time we'd been on a record together for years - and Justin Young from The Vaccines came and played guitar that same afternoon, when we also at pizza. Michael Wood (who was in Singing Adams) played piano and bass. Gavin Johnson from The Broken Family Band also played some bass, as did Chad Young, another old Cambridge friend. Russ Peterken played guitar on The Volunteer, and my dear old pals Martin Green and Inge Thomson added some accordion and singing respectively, all the way from Scotland. As if that wasn't enough, Roger Illingworth played some sax on the first song, and Stephen Gilchrist played the drums. Neil Rogers also played some drums and percussion, which we did at his studio. I think the last thing we added was Horse on pedal steel. So much for making a solo album.
The artwork for this record was done by Dan Hillier.
